All generic domain name extensions and certain country-code ones support a security lock functionality whose function is to stop unsolicited transfers of active domains. Many domain name registry organizations that supervise country-code TLDs that do not support this option are in the process of introducing it for the sake of safety and for the convenience of the domain name registrants. A domain name can be transferred only on the condition that it is unlocked and only a registrant who has been granted access to the account with the current domain name registrar can accomplish that. New domain names are registered with the lock option enabled on purpose, so as to prevent any unauthorized transfer attempts. The lock option is one of the safety measures for regulating the transfer of active domain names between registrars that have been adopted over the years.
