A parked domain is one that is taken, yet it is not connected to another service - web or email hosting. In other words, such a domain address won't open any real content in case you type it in a web browser, but no one else can take it as you have already registered it and you are its owner. The best thing about getting a domain and parking it afterwards is the fact that you can keep it and not worry that someone else may register it meanwhile if, for example, the website for it is not ready yet. You could create a short-term Under Construction page for a parked Internet domain while you are working on the web site, or direct it to some other web address - temporarily or permanently. The latter option can be used when you have already registered domain.com, for instance, and you get domain.net and domain.org, so that you can protect a brand name or a trademark. In this situation, the .net and .org domain names can be parked and forwarded to the .com as you don't need different sites for them.
