In case you have an email with your own personal domain instead of a 3rd-party one, you’ll be able to use an email app such as Apple Mail, Thunderbird or Outlook to check and manage your email messages. The advantage of using such applications is that you can also take advantage of other features, such as calendars and address books. There are two email delivery protocols that you can choose from when you configure the app of your choosing to access your mailbox – POP3 and IMAP. With the first one, all messages that are received will be downloaded onto your device – desktop or mobile, unless you decide to keep a copy on the server. With the second protocol, the email messages will be displayed locally at your end, but they will stay on the server at all times, so you can set up the account on numerous devices and access the email messages from any location. You will also be able to examine old email messages if there’s an issue with your Internet connection, which is an advantage over web-based services.
